Monitoring multidimensional poverty in the EU regions

A recent study, co-authored by the JRC and the Directorate General on Regional and Urban Policy, aims at measuring the area-specific poverty in the European Union (EU). The results indicated that the EU regions are strongly diversified with respect to poverty, hence relying only on country level estimates of poverty in the EU countries may be highly misleading.

The Multidimensional Poverty Assessment Tool

With about 75% of the world's poor living in rural areas, one question is: How do we assess and measure rural poverty in order to be more effective at eradicating it? A recent journal article at the Journal of Development Studies study, co-authored by the University of Berkley and the JRC, discusses the participatory creation of the Multidimensional Poverty Assessment Tool (MPAT). MPAT is a survey-based thematic indicator, developed by an international consortium led by the International Fund for Agricultural Development (IFAD), a specialised agency of the United Nations.

JRC at the 4th Gender Summit Europe 2014

The JRC-COIN was invited at the 4th Gender Summit Europe 2014, hosted by the European Commission, to discuss the JRC validation of the IUCN's Environment and Gender Index. The JRC has worked iteratively with the EGI developing team in order to arrive at an index that meets international quality standards.

The JRC was invited at the 3rd Forum d’Avignon Ruhr – Innovation is Passion to comment on Evaluating Creativity-related issues during a panel discussion. The Forum d’Avignon is a dedicated to culture think tank on the links between culture and the economy, suggesting subjects for reflection at global, European and local levels.

JRC contribution to the World Economic Forum Europe 2020 Competitiveness Report

On June 2014, the World Economic Forum (WEF) launched the latest edition of its Europe 2020 Competitiveness Report in Brussels. The JRC was asked to contribute an extended box to the WEF report, on the basis of joint work between the JRC and the Directorate Genederal on Regional and Urban Policy (DG REGIO) on the Europe 2020 strategy.

Encyclopedia of Quality of Life and Well-Being Research

Three JRC-COIN staff have served as Editorial Board Members and contributed with 15 short articles to Springer's Encyclopedia of Quality of Life and Well-Being Research, published in May 2014. The Encyclopedia - a 12 volume book of 7300+pages - is considered to be the first comprehensive reference work on scientific and other scholarly research on the quality of life, including health-related quality of life research or also called patient-reported outcomes research.
