With the growing momentum towards the implementation of the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development and ahead of the United Nations High-level Political Forum on Sustainable Development in New York, two international indexes measuring progress on sustainable development issues were launched in June 2019: the Sustainable Development Goals Index and Dashboards (SDG Index) and the EM2030 Sustainable Development Goals Gender Index (SDG Gender Index).

Launch of the Regional Gender Equality Monitor

In the occasion of the International Women's Day, DG JRC in collaboration with DG REGIO launched the Regional Gender Equality Monitor, which assesses the level of disadvantage and achievements of women in EU regions. The Monitor in based on two indices. The Female Disadvantage Index measures the difference between the performance of men and women in all EU regions. The Female Achievement Index measures the level of achievement women in a region compared to the region with best performing women.

Commission launches online tool to measure how well Europe and Asia are connected

On 19 October 2018, as a deliverable of the 12th Asia-Europe Meeting (ASEM) Summit in Brussels, the European Commission has presented the ASEM Sustainable Connectivity Portal – an online tool offering a wealth of data on the political, economic and social relationship between the two continents.

The first edition of the Cultural and Creative Cities Monitor represents a first step towards creating a better measurement and understanding of how diverse Cultural and Creative Cities behave and perform across Europe. This tool allows monitoring and assessing the performance of 168 ‘Cultural and Creative Cities’ in Europe compared to their peers using both quantitative and qualitative data.

JRC discusses cultural and creative cities’ at the “Role of Culture”

In the context of the European Semester and “The Role of Culture” event on 15-16 April 2015 in Lisbon, the JRC has been invited to discuss the ongoing work on the development of a monitoring tool, the Cultural and Creative Cities Index (working name). The Index is the result of a convergence of interests of several stakeholders and the European Commission to establish a common evidence-base for understanding and monitoring cultural and creative initiatives and assessing their social and economic impact in cities milieu.
